About MDeyes

  • Antioxidants can assist in protecting the structures of the eye from free radical and oxidative damage

  • May help support the protective macular pigment of the retina

  • Features precise ingredients used in clinical trials

According to a 2001 clinical study, daily intake of a nutritional supplement containing antioxidants, beta-carotene, and minerals has a positive effect on macular health.

In 2013, a follow-up study (AREDS2) improved the supplement formula, with four key changes including: adding lutein and zeaxanthin, adding omega-3 fatty acids, reducing zinc content, or removing beta-carotene.

The latest clinical findings indicate:

  • Replacing beta-carotene with 10 mg lutein and 2 mg zeaxanthin improves effectiveness.

  • Adding omega-3 fatty acids showed no positive effect.

  • Reducing zinc to 25 mg per day (compared to the high dose of 80 mg) resulted in no difference in effectiveness.

MDeyes formula:

  • Precisely based on AREDS2 study recommendations

  • Contains 25 mg zinc, with just one daily dose required

  • Includes FloraGLO® lutein and OPTISHARP® zeaxanthin

Antioxidants and Macular Health

Our bodies produce free radicals every day, which can damage the eyes. Antioxidants act like "free radical scavengers," helping to neutralize and clear free radicals from the body. While our natural defense system produces antioxidants to combat free radicals, some can evade this system and cause cellular damage. Research shows that free radical-induced cell damage accumulates over time. Antioxidants such as zinc, vitamin C, and vitamin E can help defend against free radicals.

Lutein, Zeaxanthin, and Macular Health

Lutein and zeaxanthin are classified as carotenoids and form the natural macular pigment in the eye, particularly concentrated in the macular region of the retina. They help filter harmful ultraviolet (UV) light. Studies have found that supplements containing lutein and zeaxanthin esters can increase macular pigment density. Higher macular pigment density protects retinal tissue, maintains visual acuity, and promotes overall eye health.
